  • Working with a singing teacher/coach to help develop the quality and tone of my voice.
  • Taking up instruments to accompany my songs, and use them to develop chords and melodies.
  • Begin writing my own songs. Before I start to write my own songs, it might help me to listen other songwriters’ work so that I can get a feel for what makes a successful song.
  • Get used to performing in front of a crowd. Signing up for open mic night and gigs. I have been performing at Grantham New Youth Theatre group for almost 7 years now acting, dancing and singing so I am pretty confident in performing in front of an audience.
  • Start recording my own songs. By recording them, I’ll be able to listen back to them to see if there’s any room for improvement, but I’ll also have a version that I can post online for exposure, or send to record companies as a demo.
  • Posting my music to social media. To gain more visibility as a singer-songwriter I like posting my music to social media apps such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube.
  • Start submitting the songs to an online music catalogs such as Spotify or google play. When TV shows and commercial companies need music, they often consult online music catalogs. You can submit your songs to these catalogs so companies can listen to your music and see if it’s a fit for what they need.
  • Contacting music labels. Some record companies accept demos from aspiring singer songwriters, so I could send them recordings of my songs to see if they’re interested.
